Stay on Target!

Whew! My summer semester is almost over, and I'm exhausted! I also spent the afternoon setting up my custom figures at the West Oaks Alamo Drafthouse for the their super-hero art exhibit running through the month of July. There were some seriously wonderful works of art going up while I was setting up my figures, it looks like they've had a great turn out for the exhibit. Hopefully this will give them some good through-put and lead to some attention for my fellow artists and I. Big THANK YOU to Mike and the rest of the gang over there, they're really working hard to put together an awesome show!

If you're showing up here and wondering where are all the damn custom action figures I'm rambling about, don't worry... not a lot new in the works but I'm going to take the break from school as a chance to finally, for real, photograph a lot of my Star Wars themed worked, so there should be regular updates starting soon! Even if you're not a huge Star Wars fan, I think there are a lot of fun figure designs that incorporate some other stories and characters into that universe far, far away.

Martin Spitznagel - A Handful of Keys

I had the pleasure of meeting Martin a few years back and we became fast friends, thanks in no small part to our mutual love of Star Wars. Martin is a true Renaissance man, master of many crafts, and is a well recognized rag-time piano player. If you have never heard him play, you need to check him out covering popular video game music and movie scores with an amazing rag-time flair.

Some samples:

Rag-Time Star Wars Cantina Band with fellow rag-timer Bryan Wright

His first CD Tricky Fingers and a high quality version of his Cantina Band rendition can be found at sites like, iTunes, and other venues!

His new release, A Handful of Keys, have even more pop-culture inspired tracks and is available on his site, with more places to purchase to come.

My Next Show - West Oaks Alamo Drafthouse in Houston!

Exciting news! I dropped off around 25 figures at the West Oaks Alamo Drafthouse in Houston yesterday for their super-hero themed art show running July 1st  - August 1st. There's no opening or anything, but if you're in the area or there to catch Captain America, be sure to look for the display case with my figures in the theater lobby.

This isn't good-bye, just good night!

Well, after two years of surgery, recovery, and a few plans that didn't come through, I finally started back to school last week. I'm working on a BFA in Photography which seems like a natural fit for my interests and skill set, and I'm enjoying classes a lot. We're shooting 100+ images a day since it's the compressed summer schedule, so it's wearing me out, but I feel like I've already learned so much. But it doesn't leave much time for my art and hobby projects, for now at least.

I'm also working on getting my figures exhibited at another art show, so hopefully that will come through as well. I'm certain I won't be able to resist cranking out some new characters once the old peg warmers have dried up and we start seeing some new product on the shelves!

Tintagel - The Queen

Aura inherited the throne of Tintagel at a very young age, but proved quite the capable Queen. Her rule saw years of peace, tranquility, and prosperity for the small castle-state... a trend that could have continued indefinitely if not for the arrival of the Horde from distant lands.

The travelers Ash and Nicademus brought word of the approaching forces, and were quickly welcomed into Tintagel's small but formidable military force when the Queen was captured and a rescue was enacted.

She happily shared Tintagel's dominion with the wyverns that occupied the caves beneath the castle and enjoyed a powerful alliance with the shrewd dragonians.

Her apparent death at the hands of an assassin coinciding with the Horde's arrival on Tintagel's coast would usher in a dark, sad period for the coastal keep...

Parts Recipe:

Padme Amidala - Hands
Evolutions Padme Amidala - Head

Tintagel - The Ronin

Nicademus, the Ronin, joined Ash on his petition of the far Kingdoms for aide against the invasion of the Horde. Like Ash, he soon found himself caught up in Tintagel's own struggles against the forefront of the Horde's forces.

It was a powerful teleportation spell gone wrong that fused the once human Nicademus with his mount, a large black dragon. It would always be unclear just how much of each being survived the accident... as Nicademus became increasingly more draconic in spirit as time passed.

He would eventually move into the Wyvern catacombs beneath the castle and act as their caretaker and ambassador.

Sadly, the longevity inherited from his dragon-half would ensure Nicademus would outlive the kingdom itself.

Parts Recipe:
Nemesis Immortal - Wings
Montezuma's Skeleton - Loin cloth
Sebulba - Head
Frost Giant - Base Figure
