COBRA Witch

More COBRA Infected! These are, for those of you who didn't see the first batch, mashups of COBRA soldiers from GI Joe with the Zombies from Left4Dead. It's a fun project to keep me busy while I plan out more complicated figures, and a nice way to use up fodder that might not otherwise be utilized. I gave myself a rough "no buying new parts for zombies" rule for my first two batches, but after 10 or so I might need to replenish some parts. I don't think this batch is dynamic as the first, mainly because I think the L4D1 designs were more visually interesting than the L4D2 designs (and this batch is mostly L4D2 infected).

Ah, The Witch! One of the few truly terrifying moments in gaming, for me a least, was about the first fifty times I encountered her in L4D. Wonderfully scary character and sound design on her, and I think I captured a lot of that here. She doesn't have anything to mark her as associated with COBRA, but I went with the wrapped bandages with the thought that perhaps she's gotten some medical aid before her mutations fully took effect. Really happy with the final results on this one!

The Spitter started as a filler custom, just a way to round out this "wave" (or strain) of figures, but really grew on me as I started to piece her together. Figures like this can be a fun challenged as I try to use up older fodder, match elements of an existing design, work in recognizable details from another concept, and try put my own unique spin on it while coming up with something that looks good. I think her spit accessory works great, though I might need to add some gloss to it make it look more slimey. Oh, and for those of you unfamiliar with the L4D Infected she's grotesquely bloated, not pregnant.

The Jockey isn't super articulated, as I felt it was more important to get his hunch-backed appearance and make him in a pose where he could cling to another figure. Another one I really struggled with in the planning stages, but after the first few pieces were figured out he really came together. I couldn't decide how to make him look like a COBRA, so I went the other way and just made him buck nekkid! I figured a zombie who tries to climb up your back and ride you like a bull machine could only be scarier if he wasn't wearing pants.

The Crawler isn't a specific L4D Infected, more of an "true zombie" in that he appears to be pretty far gone. But the Crawler is a staple of the Zombie Genre, so I was happy to make one for this "wave" of figures. I think Compound Z is probably a little bit Rage Virus, Green Flu, and the T-Virus (among others) mixed together. There's room for classic zombies and modern infected in my world.

The Charger was a bit of a challenge. He needed to be BIG, but only about half the size of the tank. I tried a lot of different part combos before I settled on this design, deciding the torn COBRA blue jumpsuit was a good analog for the torn over-alls of the L4D2 Charger. I intentionally chose an extremely undersized arm for his left limb, to exaggerate the look of a severely atrophied appendage.

Not a perfect representation, but recognizable I think. He's based on the earlier, bulkier versions of Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series.
